Forget raindrops on roses – here are a few of my favorite things

In the spirit of all May craziness, I thought I’d switch up my usual 800ish words and go with snippets sharing my favorite things.

Easy to read.

Quickly digestible.

Just what we need right now!

I thought I’d mirror the format I use for my special subscriber monthly updates.

My current favorite things for my body, mind, and spirit (because they’re always changing)

Feed your Body

Chicken Zucchini Poppers: My friend, Tamara, sent me this recipe. HOLY SMOKES they are good. And healthy and easily freezable. So guess who made a quadruple recipe and heats up 3-4 for lunch? One of my kiddos even took some to school. Mom win.

Spendrift Sparkling Water: My impulse buy at Costco is now a recurring item on my list. All it has is sparkling water and real squeezed fruit. The little bit of real juice is a flavor game-changer. If you’re a calorie-counter, it’s basically nothing. Do yourself a favor and round down to 0.

Move your Body

Smarter Workouts Made Simple: I’m a big fan of Pete McCall and his podcast, All About Fitness. I finally took the plunge and ordered his book, Smarter Workouts. It’s chock-full of science and the WHY – but my favorite part is the movement library (exercises). He breaks them down and creates workout based on your goals.

CVS Clear Zinc Sun Lotion SPF 50: Heading outside to exercise? Slather this on. It’s just the right amount of moisture and protection without feeling greasy or stinging. Water resistant up to 80 minutes.

Feed your Mind

Pursuing Health at Every Size with Nutritionist Haley Goodrich/For the Love Podcast with Jen Hatmaker: Have I ever mentioned I love podcasts? (That’s a joke, obviously. Maybe I should do one of these with favorite podcasts….hmmmm.) Anyway this is one is full of revelation and truth. If you’re tired of feeding into toxic diet culture, you’ll be refreshed by Haley’s “Health at Every Size” philosophy that says you are worth of caring for your body in ways that make you feel stronger and healthier, no matter the number you see on the scale. (quoted from episode details)

Feed your Spirit

How to Grieve Well/Everything Happens with Kate C. Bowler: Created as a special conversation after the untimely and heart-wrenching death of 37-year old Rachel Held Evans, this episode helps us respond to deep loss and allows ourselves (and others) the space to grieve well. I have so much to learn in this arena and this podcast has helped me learn which of my “helpful” comments are actually not, and why sometimes saying nothing but just being present is the most comforting of all.

And just a favorite thing in general

Taking pictures that are so terrible I laugh so hard I cry. Because sometimes we just take everything a little too serious and we need to loosen up.
