How to talk with a loved one about their hearing loss Dr. Soriya Estes

How to talk with a loved one about hearing loss

Chances are you know someone who has experienced some sort of hearing loss. Maybe it’s a grandparent, a parent, and let’s be honest…we are getting to the age where our own ears may be changing. Today’s conversation with audiologist Dr. Soriya Estes offers an entirely new perspective to hearing devices and how to approach that loved one who maybe can’t hear you as they once could.

As a middle aged woman, and I think you’re right there with me, I’m noticing a lot of changes in my body. My healing time has decreased, I can’t read my Bible in the morning without my readers, my hair is thinning, and so much more. I don’t know about you and your girlfriends but me and my girlfriends all talk about these things. But when was the last time we talked about hearing?

Today’s episode with Dr. Soriya Estes brings new light to understanding hearing loss and finding the right device to help you hear life again. And let me tell you, if your vision of hearing aids is those beige devices that seem to whistle all the time, that’s like envisioning group fitness classes as feathered-haired women in thong leotards. Both are outdated. You’re going to be blown away when you learn all they can do.

Soriya brings such great wisdom perspective on hearing loss and hearing devices, and even beat me to the big “S” question – why do we feel shame about our ears changing when we think it’s fun to show off our new readers?
